Market Gallery is now inviting applications for Studio Projects – this opportunity is for two artists to cohabit the gallery space as a studio for 4 weeks in August 2019. In keeping with the notion of a studio in its most inclusive definition, the space may be used by the residents as a place to: think, make work, build, research, rehearse, host meetings, conduct private or public events, etc.

Budget and facilities

  • Full access to gallery space
  • Artist Fee: £2,000 (per artist)
  • Production Fee: £500 (per artist)

The artist fee is based on 2.5 days a week, at £200 a day. Accommodation and travel for this residency is not supported although applicants from further afield are welcome to put a manageable amount of the production budget towards it. If you are applying from outwith Glasgow please inform us so we may assist you if possible.

There is scope for an open studio event during or a public outcome following the residency. Although it is not an exhibition opportunity, we are open to the different forms this may take.

Studio Projects is an opportunity aimed at artists who are in need of a sustained period of reflection, research or making. This residency would be useful for those who are in an exciting, transitional point in a project, or are looking to restructure their practice. We particularly encourage artists who have not recently had a significant opportunity eg. gallery representation, a sizeable commission or a solo show in an established gallery. Selection will be driven by the above considerations, but also the interests of the current committee. We regret to say that students in full-time education are not eligible for this opportunity.

How to apply

Applications should take the form of a single PDF document comprised a statement of intent (500 words max) alongside five supporting items that convey your current interests. These can take the form of documentation of past works, images or text, a presentation of research, or whatever you deem appropriate for your application. A 5-minute video or audio recording may also be sent in place of the statement of intent.
