Understanding Communal Luxury & Radical Practice
Market Gallery presents the first of this years Night School events: 'Understanding Communal Luxury & Radical Practice' - a talk by Prof. Carl Lavery on Friday 9th September 7-9pm.
This talk aims to contextualise and explain what is at stake in the idea of communal luxury, a concept that the historian Kristin Ross investigates in her latest book Communal Luxury: The Political Imaginary of the Paris Commune (2015). Time will be spent unpacking the relevance of the Paris Commune for a world beset with a double economic and ecological crisis, and for thinking about what a properly radical practice might consist of.
The event has been organised in light of recent Bookmark: Reading Platform discussions that have also focused on Kristen Ross' book.
