About
Market Gallery is a charitable artist-run organisation based in Glasgow’s East End, facilitated by a rolling committee of artists, a programme administrator and a board. Established in 2000, it presents a varied programme of contemporary exhibitions, projects and events. Market seeks to foster collective exchange through an open, accessible platform for the discussion and experience of contemporary art in Glasgow and internationally. The committee develops the programme collaboratively through consensus, drawing on and responding to its members’ research interests. Through a combination of open calls and direct invitations, Market works in conversation with its history and DIY roots, maintaining a commitment to supportive, resilient and political ways of working.
We often refer back to previous open calls and try to find ways to incorporate unsuccessful applications into our programme as we understand how imperfect the open call model is. Due to the way we programme, limited capacity and other gallery responsibilities we are not able to accommodate a large number of unsolicited exhibition or event proposals. We ask you to keep that in mind when sending us proposals as we recognise the labour that goes into them.
