Join us at Market Gallery on Saturday the 3rd of May from 12pm to 5pm as we share pieces from our archive to celebrate Market Gallery’s 25th Anniversary year!
After finishing up her two years on the committee in January, we have invited Rhia Laing back to activate the Market Gallery archive. Focusing on Market’s relationship with Dennistoun and broader East End communities, and the physicality of the archive itself, Rhia has selected a range of materials from across Market’s twenty five year history – photographs of community workshops and events as far back as 2000, experimental videos, exhibition materials and the gallery’s changing visual identity – offering a rare look deep into the Market Gallery archive.
In addition and to celebrate the life of Market’s bulky photocopier – soon to be disposed of or passed on – Rhia has created a zine with materials from the Market Gallery archive, which includes an essay from Emmy Yoneda reflecting on the gallery’s archive. The photocopier will be available for use on the day to make and take home copies of certain materials.
Alongside the event, excess publications, posters and exhibition related materials from Market or the wider Glasgow arts landscape will be available for you to take home. (These are excess copies as we always archive two of each!)
This is a free unticketed event which will will take place in our space at 13 Ross Street, which is wheelchair accessible and has an accessible gender-neutral toilet. We have travel and childcare bursaries available, please get in touch on market@marketgallery.org to request them.
