Hidden in Plain Sight – film screening

October 11, 2025 7:55 am

Please join us on Saturday 18th October, 6-8pm as we bring together a selection of films followed by a collective discussion via zoom with artists The Camelia Committee and Hannan Jones, whom we are working with to develop new work across the next 10 months as part of Glasgow International 2026.

Doors 5:30pm

Films 6pm

Discussion 7pm

Together the films hold a thread of what belongs and what is displaced, things that turn up unexpectedly, get lost or buried; truth and fiction both held entangled in story and myth. They provoke us to question what hidden truths might come to the fore when the languages of cartography, genealogy, taxonomy and archeology are challenged.

This is a free but ticketed event so please book through our eventbrite.

A spirit, a deity, a barbarian? Captive in the subterranean – 2025 – 10’ – Hannan Jones

The subterranean area of the National Roman Legion Museum houses the archive and collection — treasures, artefacts and imperial debris that have been discovered, captured and preserved. Collectively, these hold stories of Britain’s Imperial past. How might the archive be activated, to render alive what is deemed absent?

The Secret Garden – 2023 – 27′ – The Camelia Committee

The inhabitants of a city awake one morning to find that never-before-seen trees, plants, and flowers suddenly erupted throughout the streets and in the squares. Strange and mysterious events start taking place as Camelia and Nahla investigate the origins of these new and peculiar creatures.

Dear F… – 2023 – 6’ 30 – Hannan Jones

Blending the past and the present day through conversation with local barber Walid, whose shop is adorned with Algerian identity. The barbershop itself a symbol of transformation, knowledge and community, navigates how migrant identities connect with ideas of home. Dear F… nurtures connections through letters and conversations, always circling back to the starting point.
