Studio Residency – Emelia Kerr Beale – Jan 2026

We are excited to announce the artist taking part on the Studio Residency across the month of January 2026.
Emelia Kerr Beale predominantly works with drawing, sculpture and textile. Interested in how we communicate with the world, and how the world communicates back, Emelia often uses personal and social history to consider the tensions between the stories we tell and the ones we are told.
At the moment, Emelia is exploring making and breaking as acts of collective care, resistance and preservation. During this residency, Emelia will spend time thinking about sabotage, ca’canny – an old Scots phrase meaning deliberately limiting output at work, but also to take care – and the 19th-century Luddite rebellion, which began in Nottingham, their hometown.
Emelia will destroy old work to make new work, and experiment with materials and forms associated with textile production and obsolete technologies.
