symptoms – Film screening

January 9, 2026 11:41 am
A grainy colour image shows a person seated inside an upside-down table with a black outboard motor attached. The makeshift vessel cuts through pale turquoise water, churning the surface behind it, creating white foam. The figure is turned away from the camera, their bare arm catching the light, hand on the tiller.
Still from Under Discussion (2005, 6:14 mins), video works by Jennifer Allora & Guillermo Calzadilla. Image description in alt text.

Please join us for ‘symptoms’, a screening of films selected by Hannan Jones and The Camelia Committee (Mira Adoumier, Carine Doumit, Nour Ouayda), who we are working with for Glasgow International 2026.

Six short works move across gestures, sites, materials and encounters to sit at the edges of sense-making. Moments of intensity and instability appear alongside quieter forms of knowing – communal, embodied, ritualistic, improvised. These films resist clear resolution, staying open to what lingers, ruptures or slips out of frame.
