January 19, 2017 1:36 pm

As part of our ongoing Night School programme, we are pleased to present an event with Iain Morrison.

Thursday 2nd February, 7pm at Market Gallery, free and unticketed.

Art Talk Notes In talks, writing, I’m thinking.

Iain Morrison’s text series, Art Talk Notes reckons with the question of how to effectively use occasions of being present in an audience hearing a talk.
Iain says of his series: ‘By writing continuously during artists’ talks, I generate a large amount of writing, capturing content from the talks as well as personal reflection and sensation. I then work with the material to create poem-texts. Inspired by writers like Lee Ann Brown and CAConrad, I am interested in what happens when speech meets resistance and finds redistribution within an individual, inevitably historically and culturally placed body. The pieces are partly about me being schooled, but not just me. Understanding that the contexts for artists’ talks are loosely-organised artists communities, by making accompanying films for the texts I want to hint at the further work that gets done in discussing and defining as a result of what has been put amongst us by the speaker.’

Iain will read several of the texts/films from the series, bringing the feedback loop of the writing back into a gallery space. Followed by an open Q&A.
