Join our board!

Market Gallery is looking for new board members to start between August-October 2025.
We are a small, dedicated board of trustees who advise a Programming Committee and Programme Administrator on how to achieve their goals, and continue the organisation’s 20+ years of supporting emerging artists and creating platforms for learning, research and community. This is an interesting time of transition for Market, as we step into the Multi Year Fund.
This is an exciting, challenging and rewarding position which allows board members to help shape the direction and strategy of an established art space with an experimental and flexible approach. As an organisation we have a non-hierarchical ethos and a horizontal structure. Our ethics is to uplift marginalised voices through creative practice. All members of Market have a commitment to anti-racist, socially inclusive practices, including working towards a free Palestine and uplifting trans and non-binary community members.
The board communicates regularly, with a minimum of 5 meetings per year including an AGM, and exceptional extra meetings when major changes need advising upon. There are additional opportunities to advise committee members on achieving their programming interests and support their research into Market’s ongoing structural changes, as well as some adminsitrative tasks to ensure the good governance of the organsation.
Time committment varies as we allocate responsibilities and tasks according to capacity, and we work flexibly around each others’ schedules. This position is voluntary and travel and care expenses can be reimbursed.
We are looking for individuals with one or more of the following:
- Knowledge of and interest in collaborative working, mutual aid and Artist Run Initiatives
- Experience and knowledge of the East End of Glasgow
- Experience in senior positions within the arts or charity sectors
- Experience on a board in the creative sector
- Experience and knowledge in finance and law
- Knowledge of budgets and Creative Scotland funding
- Residence in Glasgow
We especially encourage those who are LGBTQIA+, BPOC, living with disabilities, and from working class or low socio-economic backgrounds to join us.
Detailed role specification and further information about this position can be found here
Contact marketgalleryboardoftrustees@gmail.com with a short statement outlining your interest in the role, your relevant experience and a CV (optional) by Friday 25th July, or with any questions about the application process. We welcome written notes, voice notes or short videos.
Informal interviews will be held w/o 28 July
