SLANT – artist moving image exchange

Slant is an artist-run moving image project developed by Market Gallery (Glasgow) in collaboration with Outpost (Norwich), TCB (Naarm) and Mouries Collective (Athens).

Across three weekly screenings at Market in September 2026, each partner artist-run organisation will curate a programme of moving image works by artists connected to their local context.

The project brings together different artist-led ecologies, placing works, methods and questions into conversation across distance. Taking its title from Emily Dickinson’s “Tell all the truth but tell it slant —”, Slant thinks through moving image as an oblique form: one that approaches truth indirectly, through relation, circulation and exchange. 

The screenings will be accompanied by a collaborative publication — part programme, part research document — weaving together notes, references and reflections from each artist run project.

Weekly screenings will take place at Market Gallery on Thursdays 10th, 17th and 24th September, 6–8pm. Refreshments and snacks will be available. Free, no booking required.

A touring screening, drawn from the partner programmes and threaded together by Market, will then be presented by each collaborating organisation in their space from October–December.

AWAY WITH ETERNAL TRUTH by TCB

TCB Art Inc. is one of Naarm/Melbourne’s (AUS) longest-running ARIs. Established in 1998 by artists Blair Trethowan, Sharon Goodwin, and Thomas Deverall, TCB was founded to address the need for a non-commercial, not-for-profit exhibition space in Naarm’s CBD that could platform emerging artists and experimental practices. For over 28 years, TCB has operated as a volunteer-run, artist-led organisation dedicated to supporting risk-taking, cross-disciplinary and early-career practices. The gallery has presented work by more than 700 artists from Australia, the Asia-Pacific region and internationally, and has provided first solo exhibition opportunities for many practitioners.

LEAVE A FALSE TRAIL by OUTPOST

OUTPOST is an artist-led charity based in Norwich, committed to the uncompromising presentation of contemporary art. Founded in 2004, the gallery is run by a volunteer steering committee of artists who collectively shape the programme, look after the organisation and learn by doing. The committee changes every two years, deliberately hitting the reset button and bringing new people, ideas and energy into the organisation. In its twenty-two-year history, this has meant eleven different iterations of OUTPOST, each reforming and reimagining what the gallery can be – less a fixed institution than a continually renewed site of opportunity. From its gallery, set back from Wensum Street in Norwich’s historic Tombland, OUTPOST presents twelve exhibitions a year alongside companion programming including readings, residencies, panel discussions and gatherings. Working with organisations in Beirut, Zaporizhzhia and Glasgow, as well as artists based in Rotterdam, Helsinki, Lithuania, London and, of course, Norwich, OUTPOST continues to connect the city to wider artistic networks while making space for the particular communities, relationships and possibilities that emerge from being here.

AN ANCIENT FEELING THAT TRANSCENDS MEMORY by Mouries Collective

We, Mouries Collective, are an interdisciplinary group of women artists, researchers and therapists based in Athens, Greece. Originally brought together by our shared interests in healing and divination practices, we have more recently focused on developing connections with trees, plants, and the diverse beings with whom we share this planet. We are currently working under the theme of healing, rituals, and (e)merging women’s knowledge while refining our collective processes. Our encounters and workshops combine multimedia, intersectional and inclusive approaches, whether intervening in public space or exploring group dynamics through a framework of care.
