The Minch | Suzanne Déry and Susannah Stark
Exhibition runs 12 – 23 April 2017, Tuesday-Sunday 12-6pm.
An exhibition of new work by Suzanne Déry and Susannah Stark, The Minch is a multimedia installation of disembodied voices, handmade instruments, and moveable plastic prints. Across Market’s three exhibition spaces, the installation explores the potential of the human imagination to appropriate and animate a concept, an object, or an environment. The works are aimed at questioning material hierarchies by drawing on the physicality of architectural spolia in ancient monuments, stone circles, and the contemporary urban environment, reflecting on the power of the human voice at a time where public spaces are increasingly overlaid by digitised voices as a form of aural spam.
Together Stark and Déry explore the peat bog or swamp as a sonic space; a corrupted archive digesting and re-appropriating images and sounds in new contexts.
