What is Gaelic culture?

Is it more than a language?

Is it just a Highland thing?

How is it relevant in the modern world?

What can it tell us about art and creative practice?

As part of our Resource Library workshops programme, Market Gallery joined Gaelic speaker, community arts worker and researcher Rhona NicDhùghaill for a question-, reflection- and conversation-based workshop* exploring Gaelic culture and its place in contemporary Scotland, from a pro-diversity standpoint.

Starting with a question amnesty, the session evolved to respond to what was raised in the room. With space for solo reflection, writing and group discussion, aspects of Gaelic culture and worldview which inform Rhona’s practice were shared and woven through the workshop.

This workshop was a friendly and informal space, open to anyone with an interest in Gaelic culture.
