For this publication Market Gallery brought together five commissioned artists who use writing in its expanded form as part of their practices. The publication was conceived as an alternative to our typical annual solo presentation of work in our space, which was not possible nor practical this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We recognised the hardship that many artists were undergoing due to lost or lack of work and decided to disseminate our funds to a larger pool of artists. This led us to the collision of 5 artists working in Scotland using writing in exciting and disruptive ways.

The commission was intended to give emerging artists suitable funds to form an innovative and well-developed piece of work. We wanted to support art practices which incorporated writing in a way which is becoming more prominent in our arts ecologies. This year we focused on supporting artists working with fiction or poetry as a way to further diffuse boundaries between literature and writing within the contexts of contemporary art.

Our contributors are:
Juliane Foronda, Uma Breakdown, Rodrigo Vaiapraia, Francis Jones, Adam Benmakhlouf

Graphic Design by Francisco Ortega
