Funeral Flowers- Work-in-progress performance with Molly M. Whawell

Unfolding under the hum of red-spectrum grow lights, ‘Funeral Flowers’ emerges from grief, 2 microscooters, 20 buckets of water, fresh cut-chrysanthemums and a group of performers attempting to create and uphold a closed system.

The work grows from Molly M. Whawell’s research into the global cut-flower trade: the vast commercial systems built to engineer, circulate and preserve flowers in a race against their death – exploring the impossible labour of holding things together as they disintegrate.

A work-in-progress sharing of an ongoing performance in development. Devised with contributing performers Kirstin Halliday, Aniela Piasecka, outside-eye Zinzi Buchanan and with support from dance dramaturge Emma Lewis-Jones. Sound by Miko Szatko. The performance is durational with audience invited to come and go throughout. There will be a separate space with comfortable seating and refreshments to take breaks in. The performance may contain partial nudity.

Free, no booking required. Refreshments provided.
